Whether you’re on a detox to boost your wellbeing or you don’t drink alcohol at all, mocktails are a great substitute for classic cocktails. With their vibrant flavours and fun colours, they’re ideal for making any evening out or your party at home special, adding a splash of ceremony to any occasion. Here are a few of our favourite mocktail recipes that are easy to try at home.
Non-alcoholic Negroni
The Negroni is a favourite on many cocktail menus, combining gin, Campari and vermouth. For the non-drinkers, this version gives all the flavour without the alcohol. First, make a syrup by putting half a grapefruit, an orange slice, 125g of caster sugar and 125ml of water into a saucepan. Add three crushed cardamom pods and a pinch of coriander seeds, then simmer for around 5 minutes.
As the fruit softens, crush it with the back of a wooden spoon to release the juices. Take the saucepan off the heat and leave the syrup to cool, then strain it and pour 25ml into a tumbler with ice. Add 25ml of white grape juice and 25ml of cold water, stir and serve with a slice of orange.
Mojito mocktail
If you’ve searched for the ‘best dinner places near me’ and booked a table at your chosen restaurant, this mocktail makes for an ideal pre-dinner drink as you get ready. It’s simple to make and refreshing to enjoy.
Mash up some mint leaves with a tablespoon of sugar using a pestle and mortar, then juice a lime. Fill a tall glass with ice, pour in the lime juice and mint mix, then top up with soda water. That’s it! Remember to juice extra limes if you’re making more than one drink.
Fruity punch
Making drinks for a family gathering or summer barbecue? This delicious mocktail can be enjoyed by everyone. Simply pour four tablespoons of grenadine into a jug, then carefully pour 300-400ml of orange juice down the side of the jug so that it sits on top of the grenadine. Top up with sparkling water and give each guest a skewer with grapes and blueberries on to use a a stirrer for their glass.
Passionfruit & elderglower spritz
A great substitute for Buck’s Fizz, this fun mocktail is a great aperitif to enjoy before heading out to find the best places for lunch near me. Chill 50ml of passion fruit juice, 25ml of lemon juice and a splash of elderflower cordial. Tip all the ingredients into a flute glass, carefully top up with sparkling water and serve.
